Yaşasın 80'ler! Diskom geri geldi, hem de tam istediğim kıvamda! Yerim! İlk şarkı Feel the Love'da Brett Anderson -yerim- sanki söylüyor. Ya da ya da We Fight for Diamonds gibi manyak güzel bir isme sahip olan şarkıyı daha bashka nerede bulabilirsiniz?? Synth müziği sevdiğin! 80'ler ama bugünün 80'leri. 2008'in en iyi albümlerinden birisi ile karşı karşıyasınız. Avustralyalı ekip Cut Copy [Ctrl-X Ctrl-C] In Ghost Colours adlı albümü ile yılın en iyi 10 albümünden birisini yapan Hercules & Love Affair sonrası çıkan en iyi kaydı yaptı bile. döncem, gelince albüm eleştirisi, nedenler ve fazlası burada

Blue Penguin başlar başlamaz atmosfer fotoğrafa yerleşiyor. Intro havasındaki şarkı uyuşuk melodisi ile Beach Boys dönemlerine göz kırpıyor. İlaç etkili, bol enstrümanlı, görece olarak albümdeki en isteksiz şarkılardan birisi olarak devamına dalmak için zor bir sınav veriyor. Oh, Mojave adlı ikinci şarkı Beirut'tan gerilim giderse nasıl olur sorusuna cevaben yapılmış gibi duran, hiç bitmeyen şarkılardan. Tane Mahuta ile Afrika rüyası gitgide belirginleşiyor. Paul Simon'ın Graceland'ini anımsatan, hep beraberken daha mutlu alt okumalı şarkı ukelele girişi ile hakikaten sevimli bir havaya bürünüyüyor. Irkçılığa son kampanyalarında hiç düşünülmeden kullanalacak şarkı yetmez bir daha dinlerim dedirtiyor. 4. şarkı ise bir hayli farklı. There Are Birds, albümün Afrika soslu, Beach Boys marmelatlı duruşundan tamamen zıt, neden olduğu anlaşılmayan, The Concretes albümünden fırlamış gibi duruyor. İşin ilginç yanı Ryan McPhun'a ait grup bu şarkıda görevi yan rollerden Amee Robinson'a bırakmış. O da elinden geleni yapmış. It's Mwangi In Front Of Me adından da anlaşılacağı gibi aptal bir şarkı. Şaka şaka -Nasıl olsa bu yazıyı adam edeceim. Bu şarkı Sigur Ros'a ithafen, onore etmek için yapılmış bir jest adeta. Ruhani, düşsel, meleklerarası bir seyahat, ne derseniz deyin Sigur Ros sevenlerdenseniz -kendileri ile hep mesafeli bir mesaim olmuştur- şanslısınız demektir. İlhamdan çok intihal. 7 numara Remember ile Beach Boys bağlılıkları zirve yapıyor. Geçtiğimiz yıl çıkan, en iyiler listesine adını yazdıran Panda Bear ile olan benzerliği de belirginleşiyor. Kenya Dig It? ise Flaming Lips'in mucize orksterasyonunu anımsatan, Wampire Weekend'in yapamadığı güzel şarkılardan. Kapanış Morning Sun ise albümün en iyisi. Yavaştan uyuşturup okşayan şarkı içinde birkaç şarkı barındırıyor. Ruby Suns biraz da böyle bir grup; herbir şarkı farklı farklı gruplara kapı açıyor, coğrafyalararası melodiler harmanlanıyor. Nihayetinde sürprizleri bol oluyor. İsmi geçen gruplardan birisini seviyorsanız, Ruby Suns'ı sevmemeniz için...

First, on my music player is an excerpt of a demo of a
a song called wargames, part of the more
political, current affair part of the album
It first started on my atari
Back in the days when I had an atari str and a
a couple of sturdy outboard samplers about eight years
ago now rewritten over the last year as a battlecry
my own battle against the apathetic technological age
I debuted it in full with an amazing gospel choir
at the barbican last winter in the plague songs
night with rufus wainwright and
imogen heap, I performed as neolithic warrior complete
with a bleeding skull for the climax with ondes martenot and
full brass band... a personal highlight of last year..
Now, must get back to the music...
